More than 97,000 Florida homeowners fail to cash in on federal program

More than 97,000 Florida homeowners are failing to cash in on a federal mortgage program that could save them hundreds of dollars each month.

According to a second-quarter report from the Federal Housing Finance Agency, Florida has the highest number of borrowers eligible for the Home Affordable Refinance Program that aren’t taking advantage of the lower interest rates it offers.

Florida homeowners missing out on mortgage savings

Nearly 100,000 Florida homeowners, including 5,100 in Palm Beach County, are losing out on lower monthly mortgage payments by not taking advantage of the Home Affordable Refinance Program. The Federal Housing Finance Agency issued a report this week that found 3.2 million homeowners nationwide have used HARP, which reduces the amount of interest paid on mortgages that are underwater.

FHFA Announces Detroit HARP Outreach Event
